EDITOR’S NOTE
Happy Sunday. And just like that, the controversial Sex and the City reboot is officially over. While I could spend hours dissecting that sh***y ending (no pun intended, but safe to say the women deserved better) or Carrie’s final outfit (they saved the worst for last), I decided my time would be better spent rewriting the ending entirely. Or at least…the fashion.
Instead of assassinating her character week after week, Miranda — our forever “contrarian friend” — should have been styled carrying fall’s hottest “it” bag. Or better yet, in the polarizing ’80s power dressing that’s making a comeback. Perfect for our Working Girl.
Ms. Bradshaw? She should’ve worn one of those straight-off-the-runway silk scarf–woven braids, paired with J.Law–approved semisheer but extra-chic cargo pants. Season 2 Carrie would very much approve.
Charlotte should have followed in the footsteps of her Gen Z colleagues at the gallery and slipped into this iconic and nostalgic stiletto.
And obviously, I would have paid up and brought back Samantha, who, for the record, can wear whatever she wants.

🤨 The only thing scarier than the return of pencil-thin brows? The return of the most subversive beauty look in history.

What a week to be a Swiftie. On Monday, fiercely loyal fans went full National Treasure mode, spurred by a few signs from the Taylor Swift-verse. And this time, unlike the Reputation (Taylor’s Version) saga, they were right. At 12:12 am on August 12 (because, duh), the superstar announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, via a clip from New Heights, the podcast hosted by the singer’s boyfriend slash onetime backup dancer and his brother. (Taylor, let’s try for 10 pm next time.) Just like the no-longer-salt-and-pepper Jason Kelce, Swifties everywhere screamed “Aaaaaggghh,” then did what they do best. Meaning, decode every possible clue from the Patron Saint of Easter Eggs (we also missed thiiiiiiiiiiiis), fill the internet with new conspiracy theories (we approve of the first on this list), declare Taylor Swift Orange the Color of the Year (apologies to all cool-toned Swifties), and even potentially identify her go-to orange lipstick.
Of course, that all came before the unprecedented podcast interview — a full 124 minutes of very enthusiastic PDA and uninterrupted yapping. To keep it brief, some highlights: Swift opened up about the start of her relationship with Travis, including who he thought could get him backstage in Kansas City (spoiler: not Tree Paine) and the “insane” question she asked on their first date (relatable). She also revealed she’s deep in her sourdough-bread era (her bread puns are 10/10), she poked fun at Travis’s obsession with…wild otters (we see a Nat Geo special in his future), and she revealed we have Donna Kelce to thank for this kiss. Oh, and obviously she disclosed more about The Life of a Showgirl, which Travis described as “12 bangers” and “a complete 180” from The Tortured Poets Department. Perhaps that’s because it’s most likely her first studio album not worked on by Jack Antonoff in over a decade — which might also explain this awkward Today show interview with Margaret Qualley. Plus, Swift shared the album’s track list (obviously, fans are already speculating who “Ruin the Friendship” is about) and release date, which is Mean Girls’ Day (sorry, October 3). Swifties, hope you’ve recovered by then.

Remember when Beyoncé’s reportedly 18-to-24-carat engagement ring seemed humongous? Tell that to Georgina Rodríguez. On Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo’s longtime girlfriend announced their engagement with a photo of a rock so ginormous, it probably needs its own security detail. Naturally, we couldn’t help but wonder: Was Ronaldo taking the chunky engagement ring trend to a new level? Or, was he trying to one-up Lauren Sánchez Bezos’s “I think I blacked out” engagement ring? Who knows, but the small boulder — estimated to be between 30 and 50 carats — sent the internet into a frenzy, inspiring memes (our personal fave) and drawing comparisons to Ring Pops and the iceberg that sank the Titanic. Though, to be fair, Rodríguez is just the latest entrant into The Big-Ass Engagement Ring Hall of Fame. Some of her peers: Mariah Carey and her 35-carat stunner from James Packer, which she wore even after they split (honestly, we would too); Paris Hilton and her aptly named “Paris” engagement ring (somehow not her biggest one); Victoria Beckham’s collection of 15 engagement rings; and OG Elizabeth Taylor, owner of a 29.4-carat ring, a 50-diamond bracelet, and the Taylor-Burton diamond, which, technically, was a gift.

Rarely do we jump at the chance to see a scary movie — since, well, the world is already doing good in the scary-content department. But occasionally, a film gets so much hype that we have no choice but to make an exception. Enter: Weapons, Zach Cregger’s sophomore horror flick, which topped the box office last weekend — and, based on our very unscientific calculation, you still have roughly one week to see in all its unspoiled unglory. The premise is simple: One night at 2:17 am, 17 third-graders from the same class wake up, inexplicably walk out of their homes, and disappear into the night. In the aftermath, desperate parents and school officials predictably point the finger at the classroom’s troubled teacher, Justine Gandy (Julia Garner). But as Weapons alternates between the perspectives of six residents — including Gandy, the father of one missing kid (Josh Brolin), and a local cop (Alden Ehrenreich) — more of the story is revealed. Expect whiplash-inducing twists, increasingly what-the-hellyante vibes, and a truly wild ending.

Madewell The Darted Barrel-Leg Jean
Caroline, senior commerce editor, here. I’m all for a “Marmite” fashion trend — you know, the love-it-or-hate-it kind — but when the barrel-leg jean first appeared on my radar, I was absolutely, positively in the hate-it camp. Then, I picked up these Madewell jeans and immediately reversed my stance. That’s because the silhouette can barely be called a barrel — the leg doesn’t have that dramatic, horseshoe swoop below the knee that always felt a little…off for my preference. Instead, it’s more of a gentle curve, with a fitted butt and legs. It’s also worth noting that these come in petite sizes, so the ankle length actually hits my ankle, rather than awkwardly skimming the tops of my shoes (as is typically the case with my 5-foot frame). Needless to say, they’ve quickly become my favorite jeans of the summer — and I expect that to also be true this fall.

“How can we not? We’re girls”
